Every mattress offered to our customers has been designed, hand crafted and road tested in our West Yorkshire mill. Each unit is built to order, using traditional methods by time served craftsmen. Our truly bespoke service allows for odd size mattresses to be manufactured easily and without great cost.
The key to our success is that we fully understand what you expect from your purchase before we confirm your order. We like to discuss who is to use the mattress, on what regularity, the type of mattress to be used alongside the base as well as your budget to do the job right first time. Only then will we be happy that the item we are to make for you will meet your requirements.
Open Coil Mattresses
The “Bonnel” spring type of mattress offers different levels of comfort and quality ranging from low cost kids beds to adult spare beds. With various degrees of firmness, this mattress type covers a spectrum of tastes. When mattress preferences differ between couples, we are able to produce two mattresses which can be zipped together.
Our Zip and Link option is also handy when space is tight when accessing the bedroom and when rotating your mattress. Our mattresses can either be tufted with felt or wool buttons or quilted using a high quality knitted fabric, top grade damasks or cotton fabrics.
Pocket Sprung Mattresses
A pocket sprung mattress offers optimum support and comfort. Springs are encased in individual pockets, allowing them to move independently and react to the weight applied to them. This prevents sleep disturbance when sharing a bed and allows the mattress surface to contour the body, relieving pressure from the spine, hips and joints. Our Zip and Link option is available on pocket sprung mattresses, meaning that differing comfort preferences can be catered for.
This type is also useful when access is difficult. We currently offer 13 types of pocket sprung mattress, all of which incorporate a high quality spring system and various filling layer types. Natural filling layers include cotton, organic British wool, graphite latex, cashmere, silk, hessian etc. Synthetic types of filling layers include memory foam, reflex foam and polyester in different forms.
Don’t get hung up on spring counts!
It is a marketing misconception that high spring counts make a better bed. Too many springs can spoil the broth! When a mattress is listed as having many thousands of springs, it often means that vital filling layers are replaced with sheets of minute coils which act as comfort springs as opposed to body support springs.
The correct way to build a Pocket Sprung mattress has always been layering durable and comfortable filling layers around a good quality, supportive pocket spring system.
Foam is a synthetic material used in many different forms in the manufacture of mattresses. It can be used in conjunction with springs, or on its own. Where a full foam mattress is required, careful consideration is needed to determine the overall feel you would like and the sort of base the mattress will have.
Our foam mattresses are of a composite nature with multiple layers of different types of foams. A supportive base layer is topped with a comfort layer, usually of Visco Elastic Memory Foam. Differing thickness combinations of the two foams offer a very different overall feel.
Our foam mattresses can be manufactured to specific sizes and shapes, in keeping with our authentic bespoke service.
